Goal: To examine your immediate surrounding and find areas that you can improve or fix right away. Reflecting on your action and learnings through this experience and use them to understand everyday leadership.

  1. Which room/area were you situated in when doing this activity?
Well, we’ve all been there …

Here is my bedroom! It’s been like this for the past few weeks because I’ve been extremely busy with work. But, yes… it needs to be fixed!

2. What was the object/thing you identified to be fixed?

3. What was wrong with it i.e. why did it need to be fixed and how did it need to be fixed?

My stationary… There are so many waste papers here that need to be thrown away and markers that need to be checked because some of them have dried. Then the papers and registers also need to be managed by piling up on the side table. Also, the blankets need to be folded and put under the bed cover. I know, What a Mess!

4. Write down what you did to fix it.

I love doing this

I used a notepad to check all the pointers and markers. So, the markers on the notepad are the dried ones and those in the holder are good to be used. I also collected the waste papers, piled up the registers on the side table and folded all the blankets, dusted the bed and pillows and layed down the bed cover.

5. How did you feel after completing this task?

Feeling quite proud of myself. I’ve always heard that making one’s bed is a relaxing and therapeutic activity but never believed until today.

A Pat on the back for myself :)

6. Would you have still done this task if we hadn’t asked you to do so?

I don’t think so.

7. If no, why not? Remember to be as specific as possible when answering the why questions.

Because I’ve been too busy lately to even think about cleaning the mess. Everything on the bed was being used all day.

8. How does this activity relate to leadership without authority and everyday leadership?

If it wasn’t made mandatory to clean up the mess, I wouldn’t have taken the responsibility to do it. I think it shows a lack of everyday leadership. So I definitely need to work on it. On the other hand, I don’t think it relates to leadership without authority because it’s my own room and I can make decisions about it.
